Mark Minch is not a Great Dane (for now)

Last Thursday the @TheRecruitScoop tweeted this so far unsubstantiated report:

Christian Gore, a 2011 SG from Texas, has committed to Brown & Mark Minch, a 2012 wing from Ohio, has committed to Albany, per reports.

While we are still waiting for further confirmation on whether he has actually committed, the report does show that Minch is on UA’s radar. ESPN lists him as 6’4, 185 lbs, a power forward rather than a wing, and rates him as an 83.

As this is a tweet-centric post, recall what WB posted over the summer: “Taking tough hardnose kids that can play. Got away from that recently.” In pursuing Minch, he is keeping to his word- the ESPN scouting report raves about his strength, hustle and intensity.

I also like the move for a smaller post player- in a league that doesn’t draw true post players, hustle and athleticism often trump size. Take a look at a few of the premiere “bigs” in the last four years: Darryl Proctor, Marqus Blakely, Tommy Brenton – none crack the 6’5 mark.
