America Wins! Shall we run the numbers, eh?

The Danes are Canada, Logan is encroaching in our territory blogging about it and, so far, the trip hasn’t tempted the United States to unleash total war against America’s Hat. The good guys in Purple spread out the minutes, whomped the French speaking foes (was there any doubt?) and we’ve got the box scores to prove it thanks to Media Guru B Diddy. Here’s some numbers to chew on:

A few observations:

-Will Brown warned us that UAlbany would have to run a small line-up this year — this trip even more so than usual with Devlin and Puk sitting out — and that showed up today in the boxscore even against an overmatched UQM team with a very high offensive rebound percentage for the UQM. Yes, that is likely very inflating by the number of bricks they were throwing up (1-10 3PT) but it’s a reminder that a offensive rebounds given up is a number to watch closely this year.

-% of Possessions used: As expected, Logan leads had the highest percentage usage and it looks like Suero is eager to jump into the scoring slasher role. From the numbers, I’d guess Black was more eager to engage his new teammates that take over himself. The most interesting number to me is Watts high usage. How will he fit in with this team? His height and potential defensive will be a huge help, but is he a guy you want taking shots away from Logan/Black/Suero or even a Hooley? Will he end up with starts minutes or will they be picked away by some of the new guys?

-Will’s dedicated to making Guerrier work. The lack of height downlow opens the door for Guerrier and he’s getting ample opportunity early on, logging the most minutes of any Great Dane. His extremely low usage rate bodes well for his chances of being a very useful role player on a team loaded with offensive talent.

-Rowley: the tough SOB label matches this box score. He had three blocks, crashed the offensive boards, and picked up fouls at an alarming rate — and the last part might have a biggest impact on his minutes this year.
